Flying in a Private Jet
We just arrived at Schiphol airport after having been picked up by the limo service around 1,5 hours ago. My friend and I are heading for the Algarve for a few rounds of golf and we did not charter a private jet to get us there, no, Jean Paul, my friend owns his own private jet. He owns a brand new Gulfstream G something. The one with two wings he always kids me.
But, without kidding now, we are staring at a brand new Gulfstream private jet which is around a few hundred meters away from us now… Somehow I still can’t believe it’s his.
The good thing about flying with a private jet is that you get to decide when you want to take off. The plane will wait until you are boarded unlike the fact should you travel first class. Once you are too late the plane will leave. As I would not believe Jean Paul at first he made us have a few drinks in the lounge just to show that it made no difference whether he arrived at 10:00 or 10:30.
A private jet will wait until you have arrived, he told me and therefore we decided to have a few cognacs before actually approaching and boarding the jet. And, we are now admiring the jet as it stands there in all its glory. Looking at the Gulfstream from here is quite impressive. What a beautiful private jet it is.
Jean Paul told me that his Gulfstream cost him several millions of Euros but, since he can easily afford it, it has been the best thing he has ever bought. He says it has made his world a lot smaller.
Me personally I am getting quite exited to get aboard to see what his new private jet looks like from the inside. I did see some pictures before but had never actually been inside a private jet. And, I let Jean Paul know about my eagerness. Once we finished our Cognac we headed out to the private jet.
Since I was sure the crew would be pissed off with us being late I kind of hid behind Jean Paul a bit once we arrived. But, instead of a person agitated and making us hurry we were welcomed by the private jet steward just outside the Gulfstream as calm and friendly as possible and I must admit, being greeted with a good morning mister Hanson, welcome to your private jet, we are all ready to go, the champagne is ready and so are we, we could be up in the air within 15 minutes from now.
What the… I was stunned. Jean Paul smiled at me and told me to go and have a look on the inside.
Once again, I had seen pictures before, but it was nothing that I deemed possible of ever imagining how it could really be.
So much luxury combined in what looked from the outside like a private jet, making it look from the inside like the most luxurious villa you could ever imagine. You wouldn’t see so much luxury in a five star hotel! The interior so finely detailed, amazing upholstery, leather, wood, gold, crystal and so on.
Jean Paul took the remote control, flicked a button and out came a few designer speakers giving us some Classical music and directed me to the cockpit in which I was welcomed by Jean Paul’s pilot and co pilot. They showed me a few things inside the cockpit which was also very comfortable and clear that the pilots could do their job as comfortable and as save as possible.
The private jet took off 20 minutes later and before I knew it we were flying at 10,000 feet, on our way to the Algarve.
Jean Paul told me that initially he had used the internet to find a private jet for sale. He got in contact with the Private Jet Company who brought him in contact with a supposedly private jet specialist.
This person was able to assist Jean Paul in every step which was needed to acquire the perfect private jet for his personal needs.
I could not really believe it and was told to go and have a look. So, from the left of me a screen including pc popped up. Go on, have a look online. We have full speed internet access here while we are in flight.
You have what?
Sure, if a plane like this has everything the rich might want to have aboard, it will surely have internet. I went online, checked Google and searched for “private jets for sale” And, as Jean Paul said, you can buy a private jet on the internet. Heck, you can even buy one on Ebay I found out. How about it. Looking for a private jet for sale, going over to Ebay and buy you a private jet.
Jean Paul showed me the site he had used and showed me the friendly communications he had with the young gentleman owning the site.
Apparently this guy owned the site and a few others, received thousands of visitors to that private jet for sale site of his but had not one plane for sale.
He contacted a few people and made a sort of business deal with several private jet specialists. As soon as Jean Paul had send this guy his email he was emailed back with the question what it was he wished to be assisted by. Not long thereafter he received a contact mail from a private jet specialist who made sure the process of buying a private jet was not only very enjoyable; it was arranged for the utmost best conditions.
Jean Paul is not dumb, besides the offers this specialist gave him he did some other research on private jets for sale but had to admit that the offer he got presented was absolutely under the best possible conditions.
And, now, a few months later, we are sitting here in his Gulfstream G300 private jet, enjoying a glass of champagne, jetting off to the Algarve to play some Golf. I quickly closed the computer and praised Jean Paul for his way of getting his hands on this fine aircraft for such a good deal. While we searched for private jets for sale we came across a few of the same planes we are in right now but for hundreds of thousands of Euros more than the price Jean Paul paid.
After about 40 minutes in to the flight with Jean Paul’s private jet the steward entered the cabin to ask whether or not we would like to have some dinner served to us. Jean Paul asked me and I said:”Why not?”
What came next was to be one of the finest dinners I had ever had in my life. This was not some sort of catering airplane food produced en mass no, this was a perfectly cooked dinner you would expect to be served in once again, a five star restaurant. The most succulent veal I had tasted in a long time. The wine we had alongside it just made it perfect.
If I closed my eyes with the taste of the food and wine, the fantastic quality of acoustics that brought amazing classical music to my ears I could not possibly imagine being in a private jet.
Yet, as soon as I opened my eyes I could see a layer of clouds below us, looking through the round aircraft type windows and I realized I WAS in a private jet, thousands of feet above the ground.
This I could get used to and I started to think it might be better we fly to America or any other destination further away than just the two hours or so we were going to do.
Just kidding of course but since Jean Paul was not available all year around and I am sure he has better things to do than flying me around the whole year I was wondering how I could enjoy more of such luxury when he would not be here. I remembered how Jean Paul got to his private jet. The internet.
I asked Jean Paul if he and how he flew private jets before he owned his own private jet and he told me that he used to be in contact with a private jet company who offered private jet charter services.
Once more Jean Paul directed me to the pc that popped up again and I begin to search for private jet charter. I came to a site I liked a lot since I could compare three different options to charter a private jet.
Since buying a private jet is far beyond my budget, chartering a private jet seemed to be the perfect solution for me. Now I could enjoy this kind of luxury with some of my friends and family whenever I wanted to.

They are a lot cheaper than for instance Marquis Jets which offers sort of fractional ownership. That is another option but I prefer to charter a private jet flight by flight.

Anyways, we enjoyed the flight in the private jet for as long as it lasted and now, while I write this we are sitting in his villa after our first round of golf. The weather is nice and we have a full three weeks in which we can misbehave ourselves.
But, even though I am going to thoroughly enjoy this coming holiday, for some strange reason I already long for to be flying in that private jet again.
