Commonly known as the Hawker 700 (with the "A" representing aircraft originally shipped to North America) this variant of the 125 aircraft family came about following the purchase of de Havilland by Hawker Siddeley. The new company refined the design by stretching the fuselage, increasing seating capacity from six passengers to eight, or as many as 14 in a high-density arrangement. This improved version made its first flight in June 1976, and was certified by US and UK aviation authorities in mid-1977. Powered by Garrett TFE731-3R-1H engines, the -700 offered substantial improvements in cruise speed and range, along with reduced fuel consumption. A total of 243 Hawker 700s were produced before the type was replaced by the Hawker 800 in 1984.
