The aircraft also offers impressive cruise performance, with its two Pratt & Whitney PW305A turbofans allowing the Learjet 60 to climb to its cruise level of 43,000 feet in less than 14 minutes with its maximum takeoff weight of 23,500 pounds. Once at cruise level, it can reach speeds of up to 453 knots (about Mach .76) with a transcontinental range of 2,250 nautical miles. Average fuel consumption is 213 pounds per hour, efficiency more common to much smaller private jets, thanks to a highly-aerodynamic design resulting from the use of the NASA/Boeing Tranair computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software during its development, creating a 4% reduction in overall drag by improving on points causing excessive drag.
