Rather than resting on its laurels with the popular, capable, and incredibly robust PC-12 turboprop single, in 2007 Pilatus asked its customer base what they most wanted in a follow-on design for a private jet. The unanimous response was a larger aircraft possessing greater range and top speed than the existing PC-12, while retaining the type’s overall ruggedness and ability to make use of very short runways. In response to this feedback, Pilatus launched the company’s first jet aircraft, the PC-24, powered by a pair of Williams FJ44-4A turbofan engines. Designed to offer the same capabilities as the PC-12, the PC-24’s Advanced Cockpit Environment allows the jet to be safely flown by a single pilot, while the cabin outfitted by BMW Designworks is designed to facilitate rapid reconfiguration between passenger, cargo, and any combination of the two. The cabin includes a fully-enclosed, externally serviceable private lavatory, as well as large pallet-sized cabin door, the first for a jet in this category.
